A routine

  1. After outdoor time, check every pet: ears, between toes, armpits, groin, around the tail and under collars.
  2. Remove ticks promptly. Record the date, pet and location on the body.
  3. Use preventives your vet recommends for each species. Dogs and cats differ.
  4. Wash bedding and check yourself and children.

Watch for signs

The CDC says signs of tickborne disease may not appear for 7 to 21 days or longer. Note any changes in behavior or appetite per animal.
